Research Description
Sundanese and Indonesian music, dance, and theater; discourses on music theory and practice; social relations of power and music; music and the formation of nation-states; gender and popular music. Current projects include a study of Melayu popular music in Southeast Asia (1950-70) and a book about female singing traditions in West Java, Indonesia.
