The first meeting of the annual Seminar in Comparative Archaeology will take place on Friday September 25th at 11am in the Anthro Lounge. This year's Visiting Scholar in the Center for Comparative Archaeology is Dusan Boric (PhD, Cambridge 2003). The topic of the year-long seminar is "The House Societies Construct in Comparative Perspective".
All faculty and students are encouraged to participate.
Topics to be addressed include:
- Tracing traditions using cultural transmission and Neo-Darwinian evolutionary theory
- Network theory approaches to examining social complexity
- Recent "ontological turn" theories, especially in relation to the work of Phihlippe Descola and his taxonomy of modes of relations
- Using isotopic and genetic data in reconstructing social dynamics
